Stellar cast attached to Fredrik Backman’s Britt-Marie Was Here

SF Studios principal shooting of Fredrik Backman’s (A Man Called Ove) novel Britt-Marie Was Here has kicked off in Gothenburg, Sweden. The film stars acclaimed actress Pernilla August (Star Wars, The Best Intentions, Fanny and Alexander, Gentlemen) as Britt-Marie and is planned for a Christmas 2018 theatrical release.

The film is based on the best-selling novel Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman and is a warm and touching drama comedy about falling in love, dreams coming true and that it is never too late to get a second chance in life. The humor, warmth and love in the story reminds us of that there can be a sparkling joy of life beside a football field in a small backwater town like Borg where the pizza joint is the only thing that is left.

Britt-Marie Was Here is directed by the actress and director Tuva Novotny and it is her first Swedish language directed film. The new and well merited cast attached to the project include Peter Haber (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Beck) as Britt-Marie’s husband Kent, Anders Mossling (The Bridge, The Rain, Yarden), Malin Levanon (Drifters, Black Widows) and Vera Vitali (Arne Dahl - Misterioso, The Bonus Family).

“It feels wonderful to have such a skilled, experienced and generous ensemble of actors around Pernilla, all contributing to the universe of the film with their unique and individual abilities," says director Tuva Novotny.

“We are extremely pleased to finally have started the principal shooting of the film. Tuva is a fantastic director and is doing a great job bringing already much-loved characters to life in this movie”, says producer Gustav Oldén.

Britt-Marie Was Here is produced by SF Studios, producers Gustav Oldén and Nicklas Wikström Nicastro (A Man Called Ove). The film is co-produced by Film i Väst, TV4, Nordsvensk Filmunderhållning and Filmkameratene AS with support from the Swedish Film Institute and the Norwegian Film Institute. Distribution and international sales are handled by SF Studios.
